Letter to the Department of Education Regarding Low-Financial Value Programs

In a letter, the Student Borrower Protection Center (SBPC) responded to the Department of Education’s Request for Information (RFI) Regarding Public Transparency for Low-Financial-Value Postsecondary Programs. SBPC noted that the RFI marked a positive step forward for student loan borrower protection and the elimination of predatory or otherwise harmfully ineffective programs from the Title IV federal financial aid system. SBPC also provided several areas of specific feedback for the Department, including urging it to more assertively deploy authorities already at its disposal to weed out predatory courses and hold the institutions peddling them accountable.
