Nelnet Borrower Voices on the Incomplete Promise of Relief through IDR

The following memo describes in detail how borrowers whose loans are serviced by Nelnet have suffered from the industry’s harmful practices, in particular when it comes to the promise of affordability and student loan relief through Income-Driven Repayment (IDR) options. A waiver that would credit all of a borrower’s time since the start of repayment—irrespective of loan status or payment history—towards IDR would be a powerful step towards finally restoring the purpose of the law.
