Student Loan Website Launch with New Cancellation Litigation Tracker and Resource Hub from University of California SLLI

SLLI.org Creates a First-of-its-Kind Online Center for Scholarship at the Intersection of Student Debt and the Law

December 20, 2022 | WASHINGTON, D.C. — The University of California Student Loan Law Initiative (SLLI) today launched a new website, SLLI.org, as a centralized online hub for research on student loan debt and the law. Featuring unique resources on ongoing developments in student loan law and regulation, key information on SLLI’s efforts to support student debt scholarship, and a one-stop tracker for facts and materials on litigation related to the Biden Administration’s student debt relief plan, SLLI’s new website marks a key step forward for the student loan legal community.

SLLI’s new website is available here: SLLI.org.

The launch of this new website comes after SLLI’s announcement of a new round of grant funding available to support researchers interested in tackling the most pressing issues at the center of the student debt crisis. For the first time in more than two years, the Student Loan Research Grants program will offer awards of up to $15,000 to interested researchers, academics, and other experts across disciplines to conduct foundational scholarship on the student debt crisis and its widespread effects on borrowers, their communities, and the nation.

Background

Launched in November 2018, SLLI is a first-of-its-kind collaboration between scholars and advocates to bring an end to the student debt crisis by creating a new foundation of legal scholarship that works for borrowers.

SLLI is a partnership between the University of California Irvine, the University of California Berkeley, and the Student Borrower Protection Center. SLLI offers an unprecedented opportunity to support and foster high-quality academic research that can help us better understand the student loan crisis and find a path forward. We bring together scholars, researchers, and practitioners to tackle the problem of student loans with a strategic and coordinated approach.
