97 Advocacy Organizations Call on the Secretary of Education to Cancel Student Debt for All Public Service Workers with 10 or More Years of Service

In a letter to Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona, the SBPC, Equal Justice Works, and 95 other advocacy organizations, call on the Department of Education (ED) to conduct an immediate 90 day review of the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program and cancel the student loan debt of all public service workers who have completed ten or more years of service. With 98% of eligible PSLF applicants denied due to mismanagement and abuse by ED and loan servicers, immediate action is needed to deliver long-promised relief.

Along with calling for debt cancellation for all public service workers with a decade or more of service, the letter urges ED to give public service workers and advocates a seat at the table to ensure their experiences and perspectives are at the center of the conversation on how to fix the PSLF program.
