Letter to the Department of Education Calling for Accountability Following Accenture’s Communication Failure Impacting 9 Million Borrowers

In a letter to the Secretary of Education, the Student Borrower Protection Center blasted Accenture Federal Services—a contractor of the U.S. Department of Education and big financial firm that manages the student loan system—for sending misleading and inaccurate communications to approximately 9 million borrowers regarding the status of their applications for President Biden’s debt relief plan.

Noting the confusion and misinformation that has resulted from Accenture’s misleading communications, the SBPC called on the Department of Education to work with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and state regulators to hold Accenture accountable and make borrowers whole.
