Nearly a hundred organizations representing millions of students, borrowers, workers, people of color, women, veterans, people with disabilities, and consumers submitted a comment to the U.S. Department of Education (ED) urging ED to protect borrowers from economic harm as the proposed rule under the Reimagining and Improving Student Education (RISE) Negotiated Rulemaking is finalized and implemented.
Protect Borrowers also submitted a comment responding to ED’s request for feedback on its proposed rules to implement unprecedented changes to the federal student loan programs and federal student loan repayment system via the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act.” Amidst the ongoing affordability crisis, ED’s proposed rule exacerbates the harms imposed by the OBBBA and risks pushing even more borrowers and their families further into financial distress.
