As part of a series of reports launched by a joint investigation, the Student Borrower Protection Center and the American Federation of Teachers expose new instances of mismanagement and abuse in the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. The joint investigation found routine errors, poor recordkeeping, and conflicting policies throughout the process for determining whether borrowers’ employers qualify for federal loan forgiveness.
Documents obtained through the investigation, including a purportedly comprehensive list of employers approved and rejected for PSLF, are also being released. The organizations are calling for new reforms to the federal program.
